Since each of us is unique, your health choices need to be digested and experienced to provide you with accurate feedback on whether they enhance or diminish your health and vitality. Change is a process full of the unexpected. Please remember to honor your uniqueness by taking responsibility for your health choices, rather than giving authority to someone else to decide for you. Family, friends, mentors and authors cannot decide what will maximize your well being.
What fascinates me most about cooking is the alchemy of transforming the ingredients at hand into something totally unexpected. It does not matter what we have for ingredients in the kitchen. Everything we need is present. Like life, we need faith in the process although we may not know the end result.
Our journey together is to discovery these ingredients that surround us. We are an ingredient in the alchemy of cooking. Our state of mind, our emotions, and our intentions flavor each meal we prepare. When we widen our boundaries and self-concepts, every aspect of our world becomes our ingredient.
"The accomplished Zen cook is something of an alchemist. He or she can transform poisons into virtues. The Zen cook does not do this by adding a secret but by leaving something out. The Zen cook leaves out attachment to the self. For example, anger is considered a poison when it is self-motivated and self-centered. But take that attachment to the self out of anger, and the same emotion becomes the fierce energy of determination, which is a very positive force. Take the self-centered aspect out of greed, and it becomes the desire to help. Drop the self-orientation from ignorance, and it becomes a state of unknowing that allows new things to rise."

This is where Wendy's book has something to offer above the scores of books on fad diets and supplements. The messages we are clear on from science have been to decrease total fat, eat unprocessed foods, increase the intake of fruits and vegetables and eat a wider variety of foods. Wendy not only explains why this is crucial to the health of our planet, and ourselves but she gives us the tools to implement these changes. In her book, she lays out very specifically how to base one's diet on a variety of whole, unprocessed foods. Wendy delivers clear common sense information that has existed throughout the comings and goings of nutritional trends.
Furthermore, she offers very specific recipes and shopping guides to help those less familiar with whole foods make the gradual transition. The grace and simplicity of her book will surely touch many lives as countless many already have been by the message of her life and her work through HEALL.
