Changemakers Web Site Showcases Social Entrepreneurship Providing a Unique View of Social Entrepreneurs and their Impact on Society

Changemakers Web site is a new initiative of Ashoka Innovators for the Public that focuses on the rapidly growing world of social entrepreneurship. Its mission is to provide inspiration and resources for those interested in social change worldwide, and to empower visitors to participate in social change activities.

USAToday featured Changemakers as a "Hot Site"on Feb. 19. In the coming months, Changemakers will evolve into a portal site for the field of social entrepreneurship, with expanded content and capabilities. Compelling stories in the monthly Journal reveal how the creative energy of social entrepreneurs drives innovation in diverse fields, including education, health, the environment, and areas of human need.

Changemakers provides a rare opportunity for a general audience to understand the ideas of innovative leaders, and learn the principles that led to their success. Such stories reveal the “ripple effect” of change, and lessons that cut across countries, societies and areas of expertise. Visitors to Changemakers can browse some 34 stories in the Journal, authored by two dozen journalists and photojournalists in 13 countries. They feature vivid writing, dramatic photographs, and audio clips that allow subjects to speak in their own voice. The Generating Resources section is one Changemakers' most popular features because it offers innovative examples for mobilizing support, as well as advice, readings, and other materials for organizations seeking financial independence and sustainability.

The Library provides a valuable collection of links to online resources that are directly relevant to social entrepreneurship. Changemakers has entered into a syndication agreement for print versions of its articles, and its editorial staff includes Barth Healey, Staff Editor for the New York Times Foreign News Desk.
