Organic FoodIndiana J. L. Hawkins Family Farm raises pastured chickens
and grassfed beef seasonally and direct markets to customers in northeast.
The beef is sold by the whole carcass, halves, or split halves. Beef quarters
can also be ground into hamburger. Beef is generally ordered in March
and is available for pick-up at the farm in late October or early November.
Chicken is available in July and August. Organic Grass Farm is a transitional farm soon
to qualify for full organic certification. The farm provides grassfed
chickens, turkeys, and veal, as well as eggs from pastured poultry. The
cattle are moved every day to fresh grass with the use of portable electric
fencing. The farm's goal is to follow a "wholistic" production
model. As just one example, chickens are brought into a pasture two or
three days after it has been grazed by cows so they can scratch through
the cow manure and eliminate insect larvae. Voegeli's Natural Beef comes from animals raised
on lush Indiana pasture. The meat contains no artificial ingredients,
preservatives, or growth hormones. "We care about producing good
healthful and humanely raised beef. We work very hard bringing our beef
to you. We are looking for customers who are concerned about the environment,
the social welfare of animals, small farm sustainability, good quality
beef, and their own health." The Gunthorp's Farm has pastured pigs and chickens.
The animals receive no antibiotics, growth stimulants, waste fat, etc.
Chickens are available from June until December. Whole, halves and split
halves of pork are available for pick-up or delivery. Small quantities
of pork chops, pork shoulder roasts, ground pork, bacon, and hams are
also available.
